Cat birthday cakes are perhaps the perfect choice for cat lovers. Many different design styles and patterns can be used when it comes to making this kind of cake. Some great examples include the 3D cat cake, and also the well-known cat cupcakes.
Cats are a favorite animal. They are furry, playful and a common house pet. Many children love cats and any novelty cat item. Even grownups adore cats. One of the best party items for a cat lover is a cat birthday cake.
It is fairly easy to make a cat cake. You can start by baking two 9×2-inch round cakes. Once they are cool and removed from the pans, then it is time to assemble the cat. Place one round cake on a foil-lined board. This is the cat body. Cut the center out of the other circle. The cut needs to be 1 or 2 inches from the edge. Place the center piece above the body piece. Make sure they are touching at the neck. Take the rim piece that was cut out and cut triangle ears. Next, cut out a tail. If you have any leftover pieces, cut out cat feet. Assemble the cat and frost it all in one color. Next, take a pastry bag and fill in the details with different-colored frosting. Do not forget the nose, whiskers and eyes.
Make a three-dimensional cake in the image of a cat instead of a traditional slab cake. Prepare two cake mixes, divide the batter between a football-shaped pan, a dome-shaped pan and a mini loaf pan and bake. Once the cakes have cooled assemble the cat cake by spreading a layer of butter cream icing on the flat side of the dome-shaped cake and place the dome-shaped cake on top of one end of the football-shaped cake. Use the mini loaf cake for the tail. To make the cats fur, use butter cream icing in your color choice and a pastry bag with a round icing tip. Add icing facial features for a completed cake.
Present a playful looking cat cake by making a yarn-covered cake with a cat topper. Bake a cake mix in two dome-shaped cake pans. Once the cakes have cooled, spread a layer of icing on one of the flat sides and press it firmly against the flat side of the other cake to make a ball shape. Cover the ball with long, thin strands of marshmallow fondant in a color that matches with the party’s color scheme. While the fondant dries, make a cat from fondant to sit on top of the ball of yarn.
Instead of a traditional cake, make a batch of cupcakes for the birthday party. Bake a cake mix in cat-shaped cupcake pans and decorate each cupcake to look like a cat. Alternatively, prepare a regular batch of cupcakes and sugar cookie dough. Roll out the dough and use cat-shaped cookie cutters to cut shapes from the dough. Bake the cookies and then decorate them with royal icing. Cover the cupcakes with a thick layer of butter cream icing and place a cookie on top of each cupcake.
